I am NOT a licensed electrician and can NOT provide solid information on how exactly to install solar panels on to your grid. Now that I've covered my ass, let's learn how I built my DIY solar panel. This is exactly what I did to build a DIY solar panel for my home:

Determining How Many Solar Cells To Use In My DIY Solar Panel Build

The first thing that I needed to do was determine how many solar cells I will be using in my DIY solar panel. I figured that I am going to want to get my readings on a day where the sun shines the brightest of the year. I laid a table out in the sun and strung together solar cells to see how many I will need to produce in between 14 and 28 volts which is what is required to run a 300w solar grid inverter. Keep in mind that the sun will produce different readings around the planet, these readings I am providing are for a sunny day in Indiana. I should mention that this is where I figured out how to blow up an inverter, my first attempt was designed around watts and not volts and my inverter caught on fire when I hooked it up. I was able to split my single solar cell array into three seperate cell arrays to get the proper volts as shown in the image provided to the left.
